Children and educators are actively encouraged to practice good personal hygiene to minimise the instances of illness. We also believe that if your child is ill, the best place for them is to be is at home where they can recover faster.
Per Government directives, children should be tested for Coronavirus as soon as symptoms appear, even if mild. Symptoms include: cough, fever, runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, chills or shortness of breath. Visit https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au for more information.
Our educators are trained to administer medication in accordance with the medication administration procedure. Where the procedure has not been followed medication will not be administered.
A medication authority must be completed by a medical practitioner, specialist, pharmacist or nurse practitioner before educators can administer any medication including teething gels and nappy cream.
If your child becomes sick while they are in our care, or has a temperature of 38 degrees or higher, we will contact you and ask you to collect them as soon as possible. If your child is considered to be in urgent need of medical attention, we will call an ambulance and immediately notify you or your nominated emergency contact person.
If your child has an accident while in our care we will take all actions necessary to provide appropriate first aid and record the event leading up to the injury. If urgent medical attention is required, we will call an ambulance and immediately notify you or your authorised emergency contact person.
Please note that unfortunately we are unable to cover the cost of the ambulance and will not be liable for any medical fees.
The below Exclusion Periods table determines when your child can return to the Centre after an illness or medical event where they have been sent home.
If your child is sent home for a second time they may require a medical clearance before they can return.
